CSSC Summer Splash: building the Team with a breathtaking 401 personal bests!

Volunteer Coordinator

Over the weekend, the City of Southampton Swimming Club hosted a Summer Splash Meet, welcoming swimmers from: Camden Swiss Cottage, Eastleigh, Havant & Waterlooville, Lichfield, Locks Heath, Portsmouth Northsea, Romsey & Totten, Ryde, Seaclose, Seagulls, Telford Aqua, Tidworth, Wildern Waves, Winchester and Woking.

Across four sessions, swimmers enjoyed a fun packed schedule including 50s, 100s, 200s in all strokes, along with the 100m & 200m Individual Medley.  There was a great atmosphere with so many friendly faces on the pool deck and in the stands.  Thank you to everyone that came and for celebrating their team using #csscsummer23

Congratulations to Portsmouth Northsea for winning the Top Visiting Club award.

A home meet, like football, draws a large crowd of supporters and swimmers from across the CSSC.  The team, 80 strong, attained a spectacular 401 personal best swims, across 480 swims!  Wow! An 85% increase in achieving new times!! Huge respect to our coaches for their personal dedication to developing training programmes that achieve great results. A huge cheer also for our swimmers that commit to achieving their dream by turning up and training hard in the weeks that precede a competition.

As a club we earned 165 medals, and there was certainly some eye-popping bling to behold.

Medals 165

  • Gold 66

  • Silver 52

  • Bronze 47

We would also like to take this opportunity to celebrate the 45 volunteers that worked tirelessly across the meet to deliver this opportunity for all swimmers locally.  From the Meet Promoter to Welcome Desk, from the Tech Desk to the Team Managers, from the Announcer to the Runners, and many more in between including the ‘can’t-live-without refreshment crew’ and the clearing up team: WE salute you!  You are the beating heart that makes our club run so efficiently and smoothly.  Thank you!!

Last but not least, the 25 Officials that worked together under the command of Lead Referee David Greenaway and referees Graham Stanley and George Adamson.  Thank you for everything.  And visiting clubs - see you at your home meet some day soon!
